About
Maria Olsen is my name and I’m a Swedish photographer with more than 20 years of professional experience in media, PR, commercial, and art photography.
Working for media and corporate clients, in addition to individuals, I cover a wide area of photographic subjects ranging from business through art and fashion. As a part of the management team of Nordixis Media I also have well documented experiences as a production manager and photo editor of a variety of media productions.
Much of my work is based on the photojournalistic tradition I became familiar with during my training at the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York City. This program included internship at Magnum Photos, along with in-depth exploration of all aspects of photography, from theory and contemporary issues to technical training along with inspiring workshops.
I have also worked extensively with community-related projects, which has resulted in several exhibitions expressing my commitment to images that engage social and humanitarian issues. The photographs portray e.g. victimized children, refugees, and homeless people to whom I managed to get close in difficult situations.
A traveling photo exhibition was arranged in result of my book, launched at the National Maritime Museum in Stockholm. The exhibition continued to Nordatlantens Brygge in Copenhagen, to the Fiskeri- og Søfartsmuseet in Esbjerg, followed by Víkin — Sjóminjasafnið, in Reykjavík, after which it came to the Katuaq — Grønlands Kulturhus in Greenland and the Nordic House in the Faroe Islands.
